Who has won the first ever gold medal for India in World Athletics Championships held in Hungary in 2023?

Neeraj Chopra made history by winning the gold medal in the men’s javelin throw event at the World Athletics Championships 2023 held in Budapest, Hungary. He became the first-ever Indian athlete to win a gold medal marking a significant milestone for Indian athletics.

India has participated in the World Athletics Championships  since 1983. Their first ever medal was a Bronze medal won by Anju Baby George in 2003 in Paris in the long jump discipline.

Neeraj Chopra is the second Indian to win a medal at the World Athletics Championships. He won a silver medal in the javelin throw at the 2022 World Athletics Championships  and subsequently won the first gold for India at the 2023 World Athletics Championships.
