Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura emerged as separate states in the Northeast in 1972.
Mizoram got statehood in 1987 and Nagaland in 1963.

 

Reorganisation of Nort-East India:

1956- Assam was formed as an independent state of India.

1963: Nagaland- It was a part of Assam till 1963. It became a separate state (16th state of independent India) on 1st December 1963 after India's war with China.

1972: Meghalaya- Khasi, Jaintia, and Garo hills were separated from Assam to form Meghalaya. It became an autonomous state within the state of Assam in 1969 by the 23rd Constitutional amendment act. It attained full statehood in January 1972.

1972: Tripura- It became a Union Territory of India in 1963 and remained the same till 1972. On 21st January 1972, Tripura attained the status of a full-fledged state.

1972: Manipur- In 1956 Manipur was made the Union Territory of India. In January 1972, it attained full statehood.

1987: Mizoram- In 1972 the Mizo hills became a Union territory of India. It was elevated to the status of a full state in 1987·

1987: Arunachal Pradesh- Arunachal Pradesh became a Union territory in 1972. In February 1987 it became a full-fledged state of India.
