Question:

The average of five consecutive odd numbers is 37. What is the sum of the highest and the lowest number?

Options:

8

74

41

66

Correct Answer:

74

Explanation:

Let 'a' be any odd number

Sum of 5 consecutive odd numbers = 37

{\(\frac{a + (a+2) + (a+4)+ (a+6)+ (a+8)}{5}\)} = 37

5a + 20 = 185

5a = 165

a = 33

Sum = Lowest Number + Highest number

Sum = a+(a+8)

Sum = 33+33+8 = 74
