Question:

A vessel contains a 32 liter solution of acid and water in which the ratio of acid and water is 5 : 3.  If 12 liter of solution is taken out and 7\(\frac{1}{2}\) liter water is added then find the resultant ratio in new mixture.

Options:

8 : 11

4 : 9

4 : 7

5 : 6

Correct Answer:

5 : 6

Explanation:

Acid      Water

  5    :     3

(Ratio will remain same when we remove 'x (any quantity)' ltr. from the initial solution.)

Here x = 12

Total Quantity = 32

After removing 12 liters = 32 - 12 = 20 liters

Acid + Water = 20

A : W = 5 : 3 = 8R → 20

                       1R → 2.5

                       3R = 7.5

Water added is = 7.5ltr = 3R

Now, ratio will be

Acid  :   Water = 5   :    (3+3) = 5     :     6
