The Swatantra Party was actually formed on August 4, 1959, as a political party in India that advocated free-market economic policies. The Swatantra Party wanted the government to be less and less involved in controlling the economy. It believed that prosperity could come only through individual freedom. It was critical of the development strategy of state intervention in the economy, centralized planning, nationalization, and the public sector. It instead favored expansion of a free private sector. C. Rajagopalachari, K.M Munshi, N.G. Rangaa, and Minoo Masani are the leaders associated with the Swatantrata Party that was formed in August 1959 after the Nagpur resolution of the Congress. |
