Which Shaka ruler rebuilt Sudarshana Lake around c. second-century CE?
Answer & explanation
Correct answer: option 1
The correct answer is Option (1) → Rudradaman
The Sudarshana lake in Gujarat was an artificial reservoir, built by a local governor during the rule of the Mauryas. A terrible storm later broke its embankments. A Sanskrit rock inscription (c. second century CE) records that the Shaka ruler Rudradaman got the lake repaired with his own resources, without imposing any tax on his subjects. Another inscription on the same rock says that a Gupta ruler repaired it once again in the fifth century.
