Radha, Mary and Fatima are partners sharing profits in the ratio of 5:4:1. Fatima is given a guarantee that her share of profit, in any year will not be less than Rs. 5,000. The profits for the year ending March 31, 2025 amounted to Rs. 35,000. Shortfall if any, in the profits guaranteed to Fatima is to be borne by Radha and Mary in the ratio of 3:2. What will be Mary's share of profit?
Answer & explanation
Correct answer: option 2
The correct answer is Option (2) → Rs. 13,400
When a partner is guaranteed a minimum profit, the profit is first shared in the normal ratio. If the guaranteed partner's share falls short, the deficiency is borne by the other partners in the agreed ratio.
Radha's share = Rs. 35,000 × 5/10 = Rs. 17,500
Mary's share = Rs. 35,000 × 4/10 = Rs. 14,000
Fatima's share = Rs. 35,000 × 1/10 = Rs. 3,500
Deficiency for Fatima = Rs. 5,000 − Rs. 3,500 = Rs. 1,500
Borne by Radha = Rs. 1,500 × 3/5 = Rs. 900
Borne by Mary = Rs. 1,500 × 2/5 = Rs. 600
Mary's share of profit = Rs. 14,000 − Rs. 600 = Rs. 13,400
