Question:

The cost of two watches is in the ratio of 16 : 23. The cost of the first watch increases by 10% and that of 2nd by Rs. 477. Now the cost of two watches are in the ratio of 11 : 20. The price of the first watch is?

Options:

848

750

622

950

Correct Answer:

848

Explanation:

CP of the first watch = Rs. 16x

CP of the second watch = Rs. 23x

according to the question, the ratio after corresponding increases = \(\frac{11}{20}\)

⇒ \(\frac{16x × 110\%}{23x + 477}\) = \(\frac{11}{20}\)

⇒ 320x × 110% = 253x + 5247

⇒ 352 x = 253x + 5247

⇒ 99x = 5247

x = 53

C.P of 1st watch = 53 × 16 = 848/-
