Question:

A shopkeeper bought 40 pieces of an article at a rate of ₹50 per item. He sold 35 pieces with 20% profit . The remaining 5 pieces were found to be damaged and he sold them with 10% loss. Find his overall profit percentage.

Options:

30%

32.5%

16.25%

10%

Correct Answer:

16.25%

Explanation:

The total cost price of 40 items is = 40 × 50 = 2000

ATQ,

Total Profit =[ \(\frac{100+20}{100}\) × 50 ] × 35 + [ \(\frac{100-10}{100}\) × 50 ] × 5 - 2000

= =[ \(\frac{6}{5}\) × 50 ] × 35 + [ \(\frac{9}{10}\) × 50 ] × 5 - 2000

= 2100 + 225 - 2000

 = 325

Profit % = \(\frac{325}{2000}\) × 100 = 16.25%
