Question:

A train travels at a speed of 132 km/h and halts for five junctions for a certain time.  It covers a certain distance of 2970 km in one day.  For how long (in minutes) does the train stop at each junction if it halts for the same period of time at all of the junctions?

Options:

9 min

18 min

27 min

54 min

Correct Answer:

18 min

Explanation:

Total distance can be traveled by train in 24 hours = 132 × 24 = 3168 km

Distance traveled = 2970 km

Distance not traveled = 198

Time of stoppage = \(\frac{198}{132}\) = 1.5 hour = 90 minutes

Therefore, time of stoppage at each junction = \(\frac{90}{5}\) = 18 min
