A train leaves P at 9 am with speed of 30 km/h. Another train leaves Q at 11 am with speed of 45 km/h. The trains are traveling towards each other on parallel tracks. The distance between P and Q is 300 km. When they meet, what is the ratio of the distances covered by them? |
8 : 5 13 : 12 17 : 14 11 : 9 |
13 : 12 |
Distance covered by 1st train till 11:00 am Distance = Speed × Time = 30 × 2 = 60 km Remaining distance = 300 - 60 = 240 km Relative speed when both moves in opposite direction = ( 30 + 45) = 75 km/h Time when both meet with each other = \(\frac{DIstance}{Speed}\) = \(\frac{300}{75}\) = 3.2 hours Distance covered by 1 st train in 2 + 3.2 hours i.e. 5.2 hours = 30 × 5.2 = 156 km Distance covered by 1 st train in 3.2 hours = 45 × 3.2 = 144 km Ratio of distance = 156 : 144 = 13 : 12 |
