Question:

Three  candidates were participating in an election. The person at third place got 20% of the total votes while the difference the votes of the winner and the first runner up was 20% of the total votes. If the difference between the votes of the first runner up and the second runner up was 37,000, how many votes did the winner receive ?

Options:

1,80,000

1,85,000

1,75,000

1,95,000

Correct Answer:

1,85,000

Explanation:

Let total number of votes = 100x

Votes of 3rd person = 20% of 100x = 20x

Remaining Votes = 100x - 20x = 80x

Votes of winner = 50x

Votes of runner up = 30x

Difference between votes of 3rd person and 2nd person = 30x - 20x = 10x

10x = 37000

50x = 50 × 3700 = 185000
