Hormones are chemical messengers from the endocrine glands; too little of a hormone gives a deficiency disorder.

• Option (1) Diabetes — Caused by a hormone deficiency. A deficiency of insulin, the hormone that keeps blood glucose within a narrow limit.

• Option (2) Goitre — Caused by a hormone deficiency. Low iodine means too little thyroxine is made (hypothyroidism) and the thyroid gland enlarges.

• Option (3) Cancer — Not caused by a hormone deficiency. It is uncontrolled cell division caused by damage to genes.

• Option (4) Hypoglycemia — Caused by a hormone deficiency. When the adrenal cortex does not work properly, the result may be Addison’s disease, marked by hypoglycemia.
