Question:

India today conducted a survey if people taking tea/ coffee. Out of 9000 people, 5550 people take tea, 3600 people take coffee and 1500 people take both tea and coffee. How many people take neither tea nor coffee?

Options:

350

700

1120

1350

Correct Answer:

1350

Explanation:

T - Tea    C - Coffee   U - Universal set

$n(U)=9000$

$n(T) = 5550$

$n(C) = 3600$

$n(T∩C) = 1500$

so $n(T∪C) =n(T)+n(C)-n(T∩C)$

$=5550+3600-1500=7650$

so $n(\overline{T∪C}) =n(U)-n(T∪C)$

($n(\overline{T∪C})$ → people who neither drink coffee nor tea)

$=9000-7650=1350$
