Question:

The ratio of the number of males and females in a group is 6 : 7. Fifteen females leave the group. As a result, this ratio becomes 12 : 11. Now, if 6 males join the group, then what will be the ratio of the number of males and females in the group?

Options:

3 : 2

6 : 5

4 : 3

5 : 4

Correct Answer:

6 : 5

Explanation:

Male : Female

  6    :  7

⇒ 15 Female left and ratio becomes,

Male : Female

  12    :  11

⇒ Making Male ratio equal in both situation we multiply initial ratio with 2,

⇒ (6 : 7) x 2 = 12 : 14

⇒ According to the question,

⇒ 14 - 11 = 3 units = 15

⇒ 1 unit = 5.

⇒ Male = 12 x 5 = 60,   Female = 11 x 5 = 55

⇒ Now 6 males are added = 60 + 6 = 66

New ratio of Male and Female = 66 : 55 = 6 : 5.
