Question:

The length of the base of a right-angled triangle is 40 cm and its hypotenuse is 41 cm long. What is its area (in cm?) and perimeter (in cm), respectively?

Options:

85 and 170

170 and 85

180 and 90

90 and 180

Correct Answer:

180 and 90

Explanation:

We know that in a right angle triangle,

hypotenuse2 = base2 + height2

Area of right angled triangle = \(\frac{1}{2}\) × Base × Height

Perimeter of right angled triangle = base + height + hypotenuse

Given,

Base of right angled triangle = 40cm

Hypotenuse of right angled triangle = 41cm

In given right angled triangle,

= 412 = 402 + height2

= Height = \(\sqrt {81}\) = 9 cm

Area of right angled triangle = \(\frac{1}{2}\) × 9 × 40 = 180 sq.cm

Perimeter of right angled triangle = 40 + 9 + 41 = 90 cm
