Question:

In what ratio a grocery shopkeeper mix two varieties of pulses worth Rs. 85 per kg and Rs. 100 per kg respectively, so as to get a mixture worth Rs. 92 per kg?

Options:

8 : 7

5 : 6

3 : 7

11 : 10

Correct Answer:

8 : 7

Explanation:

The correct answer is Option (1) → 8 : 7

Let the ratio of mixing be x : y

Price of first variety = Rs. 85/kg

Price of second variety = Rs. 100/kg

Price of mixture = Rs. 92/kg

Using alligation method:

Difference of second price and mixture = 100 - 92 = 8

Difference of mixture and first price = 92 - 85 = 7

Ratio of first to second variety = 8 : 7
