Question:

A number is first increased by 20% and then reduced by 15%. If the final value is 2040, then what is the initial value of the number?

Options:

2100

1800

2000

1900

Correct Answer:

2000

Explanation:

Let the actual number =  100x

Net change = + 20 - 15 - \(\frac{20× 15 }{100}\)

 = 2%

So , New number = 100x × \(\frac{102}{100}\)

= 102x

102x = 2040 (given)

1x = 20

Initial value of the number = 100x = 2000
