Question:

A container contains milk and water in the ratio of 3 : 2 respectively. 25 liters of mixture is drawn off and replaced by 15 ltrs of water, there after ratio of milk and water becomes 3 : 7. Find original quantity of the milk in the mixture.

Options:

40 liters

32 liters

24 liters

16 liters

Correct Answer:

24 liters

Explanation:

   M   :    W

    3   :    2

25 liters of mixture contains:

Milk = \(\frac{25}{5}\) × 3 = 15

Water = \(\frac{25}{5}\) × 2 = 10

ATQ,

\(\frac{3x - 15}{2x - 10 + 15}\) = \(\frac{3}{7}\)

⇒ 21x - 105 = 6x + 15

⇒ 15x = 120

⇒ x = 8

Original quantity of milk = 3x = 3 × 8 = 24 liters
