Question:

A retailer bought 22 kg of rice at ₹35 per kg and 13 kg of rice at ₹30 per kg. What profit did he get when he mixed the two varieties together and sold it at ₹40 per kg? (correct to nearest integer)

Options:

20

21

25

18

Correct Answer:

21

Explanation:

Variety 1 = 22 kg at Rs. 35 per kg

Variety 2 = 13 kg  at Rs. 30 per kg

Total price of 22 kg = 22 × 35 = Rs. 770

Total price of 13 kg  = 13 × 30 = Rs. 390

 Total CP of 35 kg  = 770 + 390 = Rs. 1160

SP of 1 kg rice = Rs. 40

 SP of 35 kg rice = 40 × 35 = Rs. 1400

Profit = 1400 – 1160 = 240

 Profit% = \(\frac{240}{1160}\) × 100 = 21%
