He passed away in detention, a day after being provisionally diagnosed with a heart attack.

Minoo Masani, C. Rajagopalachari, K.M Munshi and N.G. Rangaa are the leaders associated with the Swatantrata Party that was formed in August 1959 after the Nagpur resolution of the Congress.

Ashok Mehta was a prominent leader of the Praja Socialist Party.
