The following recommendations were given by the Cabinet Mission in the context of free India in 1946:

A- It recommended a loose three-tier confederation for India.
B- It favored a weak central government for India.

Correction in the incorrect statements:

C- It recommended that the CENTRAL GOVERNMENT, not provincial governments should control matters concerning foreign affairs, defence, and communication.

D- It advised that the existing provincial assemblies be grouped into THREE SECTIONS, not five sections while electing the constituent assembly.

In March 1946 the British Cabinet sent a three-member mission to Delhi to examine the League’s demand and to suggest a suitable political framework for a free India. The Cabinet Mission toured the country for three months and recommended a loose three-tier confederation (STATEMENT A).  India was to remain united. It was to have a weak central government (STATEMENT B) controlling only foreign affairs, defence and communications with the existing provincial assemblies being grouped into three sections while electing the constituent assembly: Section A for the Hindu-majority provinces, and Sections B and C for the Muslim-majority provinces of the north-west and the north-east (including Assam) respectively. The sections or groups of provinces would comprise various regional units. They would have the power to set up intermediate-level executives and legislatures of their own.
