(A) Wind
(B) Water
(C) Insects
(D) Animals
Choose the correct answer from the options given below:
Answer & explanation
Correct answer: option 2
The correct answer is Option (2) → (A) and (C) only
Water hyacinth is an aquatic plant, but its flowers rise above the water. So it is pollinated like a land plant.
(A) Wind — Correct. Pollen of the flowers held above the water can be carried by the wind.
(B) Water — Incorrect. Pollination by water is limited to about 30 genera, mostly monocots, such as Vallisneria and Hydrilla in fresh water and Zostera in the sea. Water hyacinth is not one of them.
(C) Insects — Correct. The large, showy flowers attract insects, which carry the pollen.
(D) Animals — Incorrect. Some plants are pollinated by birds, bats, rodents or reptiles. Water hyacinth is not; its animal pollinators are the insects of item (C).

NCERT Extract:
Pollination – “… Not all aquatic plants use water for pollination. In a majority of aquatic plants such as water hyacinth and water lily, the flowers emerge above the level of water and are pollinated by insects or wind as in most of the land plants.”
