A.K. Gopalan (1904-1977):
A.K. Gopalan was born in Kerala. He began his political career as a Congress worker (joined in 1927) in Kerala. He participated in various movements like Khilafat movement, Khadi movement, Salt Satyagraha etc. In 1939, he made the decision to join the Communist Party. Following the split in the Communist Party in 1964, Gopalan aligned himself with the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (co-founder). Gopalan earned respect and recognition as a parliamentarian. He passed away at the age of 72 in 1977. |
