Who among the following is not a part of the two level distribution channel?
Answer & explanation
Correct answer: option 2
The correct answer is Option (2) → Agent
A two level channel is Manufacturer → Wholesaler → Retailer → Consumer. It has two middlemen, the wholesaler and the retailer, between the maker and the buyer.
Option (1) Manufacturer — A part of the two level channel (Incorrect). Every channel starts with the manufacturer.
Option (2) Agent — Not a part of the two level channel (Correct). The agent comes in only in the three level channel: Manufacturer → Agent → Wholesaler → Retailer → Consumer. There the manufacturer’s own selling agents connect him with the wholesalers.
Option (3) Wholesaler — A part of the two level channel (Incorrect). The wholesaler buys in bulk from the manufacturer and sells to retailers.
Option (4) Retailer — A part of the two level channel (Incorrect). The retailer sells to the consumer.
Note: The levels of the channel of distribution are not there in the latest NCERT textbook (2026-27). They were there in the pre-rationalised NCERT, and hence this question has been picked from the pre-rationalised NCERT. The channel levels left the new book, but NTA still asks about them. It is one short page in the pre-rationalised NCERT, and easy marks.
