Question:

Two cities A and B are 135 km apart on a straight track. One car starts from A at 8 a.m. and travels towards B at 25 km/h. Another car starts from B at 9 a.m. and travels towards A at a speed of 30 km/h. At what time will they meet?

Options:

11 a.m.

10 a.m.

10.45 a.m.

11.30 a.m.

Correct Answer:

11 a.m.

Explanation:

Distance traveled by 1st car from 8:00 am to 9:00 am i.e. in 1 hour

= 25 ×1 = 25 km

Remaining distance = 135 - 25 = 100 km

Relative speed = 25 + 30 = 55 km/h

(when car moves in opposite direction)

Time taken = \(\frac{110}{55}\) = 2 hours

So , they will meet at 9:00 am + 2 hours = 11:00am
