Question:

If sec θ - tan θ = \(\frac{1}{\sqrt {5 }}\), then value of sec θ is?

Options:

2

1

\(\frac{2}{\sqrt {3 }}\)

 \(\frac{3}{\sqrt {5 }}\)

Correct Answer:

 \(\frac{3}{\sqrt {5 }}\)

Explanation:

sec θ - tan θ = \(\frac{1}{\sqrt {5 }}\)  ............(i)

then sec θ + tan θ = \(\sqrt {5}\)

adding the equation

2 sec θ = \(\sqrt {5 }\) + \(\frac{1}{\sqrt {5 }}\)

⇒ 2sec θ = \(\frac{6}{\sqrt {5 }}\) or sec θ = \(\frac{3}{\sqrt {5 }}\)
