Question:

900 g of sugar solution has 40% sugar in it. How much sugar should be added to make it 55% in the solution ?

Options:

500 gm

300 gm

350 gm

400 gm

Correct Answer:

300 gm

Explanation:

The correct answer is option (2) : 300 gm

Sugar in solution c= 40%

Pure sugar d= 100%

Resulting sugar in solution m = 55%

Let x gm sugar should be added to the solution, then

$\frac{\text{quantity of sugar in solution}}{\text{quantity of pure sugar}}=\frac{d-m}{m-c}$

$\frac{900}{x}=\frac{100-55}{55-40}$

$\frac{900}{x}=\frac{45}{15}$

$x= 300$

∴ 300 gm of sugar should be added to the solution.
