Question:

The total numbers of males and females in a town is 70,000. If the number of males is increased by 6% and that of the females is increased by 4%, then the total numbers of males and females in the town would become 73520. What is the difference between the number of males and females in the town, in the beginning?

Options:

2000

1500

1400

1800

Correct Answer:

2000

Explanation:

Let the number of males = M

Numbers of females = (70000 – M)

Total increment in population  = 73520 – 70000 = 3520

ATQ,

M × \(\frac{6}{100}\) + (70000 – M) × \(\frac{4}{100}\) = 3520

M × \(\frac{3}{50}\) + (70000 – M) × \(\frac{1}{25}\) = 3520

3M + 140000 - 2M = 176000

M = 36000

So , Number of males = 36000

Number of females = 70000 – 36000 = 34000

Required difference = 36000 – 34000 = 2000
