In a 1200 m race, the ratio of the speeds of two contestants Meenal and Nitu is 5:7. If Meenal has a start of 500 m,then Meenal wins by:

Let the speed of Meenal = 5

& speed of Nitu = 7

 Distance to be covered by Meenal = 1200 – 500 = 700 m

Time taken by Meenal to cover 700  metres =  \(\frac{DIstance}{Speed}\)

= \(\frac{700}{5}\) = 140 minutes

 Distance covered by Nitu in 140 minutes = Speed × Time

= 7 × 140 = 980 m

So ,  Meenal won by = 1200 – 980 = 220 m
