Question:

Three varieties A, B and C of rice are mixed together in the ratio of 4 : 1: 1 respectively. The cost price of rice B is ₹82 per kg and that of rice C is ₹ 90 per kg. If the price of the mixture is ₹94 per kg, then what is the price per kg of rice A?

Options:

95

98

100

103

Correct Answer:

98

Explanation:

The correct answer is option (2) : ₹98

Since rice B and rice C are mixed in equal prop.

So their avg price is $\frac{₹82+₹90}{2}=₹86$ per kg

As the price per kg of mixture is ₹94 which is more than avg price of rice B and C. so, the price per kg of rice A must be greater than ₹94

Let the price of rice A be ₹94 per kg (rice B + rice C) and rice A re mixed in the ratio $(1+1) : 4 $ i.e. 2 : 4 = 1: 2

Here $ c= ₹86 $ perkg

$d=  E\,\,\,\, x$ per kg

$m= ₹94$ per kg

$∴\frac{1}{2}=\frac{x-94}{94-86}$

$x- 94= 4⇒x= 98$

Hence, the price of rice A is ₹98 per kg
