During pregnancy the placenta works as an endocrine tissue.

Option (1) hCG — Produced by the placenta. Human chorionic gonadotropin.

Option (2) hPL — Produced by the placenta. Human placental lactogen.

Option (3) estrogen — Produced by the placenta. The placenta makes estrogens and progestogens too.

Option (4) androgens — Not produced by the placenta. Androgens are male hormones from the Leydig cells of the testis.
