A man was allotted a work for 30 days on the condition that he wound get ₹10 per day as wage if he reports for work and if he remains absent he would have to pay ₹2 penalty for the day. Ultimately he got ₹216. For how many days he remained absent ?

We know that, the total number of days = 30

Let he work for x days then he was absent for (30−x) days.

Total paid = Rs. 216

Now, according to question.

10×x−2×(30−x)=216

⇒10x−60+2x=216

⇒12x=276

⇒x=23

Number of working days =23

Therefore, number of absent =30−x=30−23=7 days.
