A jar contains a blend of fruit juice and water in the ratio 15 : x. When 4 liters of water is added to 16 liters of the blend the ratio of fruit juice to water becomes 1 : 1. What is the value of x?

ATQ,

             Juice     :     Water

⇒             15      :        x       =     16 ltr   ...............(i)

⇒               1      :        1       =     (after adding 4 ltr water it becomes 20 Ltr)

Therefore,

             Juice          Water

⇒              10            10       =  20 ltr.

*Here, only water is added, hence juice qty. remains same.*

So, in eq. (i)

Qty of juice = 10 ltr and

Qty of water = 6 ltr.

Here, from eq. (i)

Ratio of 10 ltr juice = 15

Ratio of 1 ltr juice = 1.5

Ratio of 6 ltr juice = 6 × 1.5 = 9 ltr
