Revati is a very sincere student who was offered the post of the Head Girl. She took time to think and accepted the position. Her parents initially did not approve as they thought that it will be extremely challenging for her and can lead her to compromise with her academics. Revati, though had taken the responsibilities keeping all her objectives in mind. She figured out that she would have to make changes in her daily schedule to shoulder the added responsibilities.
On the day of the farewell she was applauded by all in balancing out well. She shared that she was able to meet her goals with the support of her family especially when she felt low. Also she was regular with her evening walks which helped her to think clearly. Her ability of taking decisions firmly without being self conscious was a life lesson to her.
Revati felt confident and had a solid sense of her own identity which helped manage the demands of her increased responsibilities adequately.
The measure used by Revati for relaxation was _______________.
Answer & explanation
Correct answer: option 4
The correct answer is Option (4) → Exercise
Option (1) Cognitive Behavioural Technique — Incorrect. These techniques work on thinking: they replace negative and irrational thoughts with positive and rational ones, as in stress inoculation training. Revati’s walks are a physical activity, not a way of changing her thoughts.
Option (2) Biofeedback — Incorrect. Biofeedback needs a record of one’s own physiological activity, such as heart rate, fed back to the person so that she/he learns to control it. Nothing of this kind is used by Revati.
Option (3) Creative Visualisation — Incorrect. This technique uses imagery and imagination with a quiet mind and closed eyes; Revati was walking, not picturing a scene.
Option (4) Exercise — Correct. Revati was regular with her evening walks, which helped her think with a clear mind. Exercise gives an active outlet for the physiological arousal experienced in response to stress, and swimming, walking, running, cycling and skipping help to reduce stress.

Regular exercise improves the efficiency of the heart, enhances the function of the lungs, maintains good circulation, lowers blood pressure, reduces fat in the blood and improves the body’s immune system.…” “Stress Management Techniques … Biofeedback : It is a procedure to monitor and reduce the physiological aspects of stress by providing feedback about current physiological activity and is often accompanied by relaxation training.” “Stress Management Techniques … Creative Visualisation : It is an effective technique for dealing with stress. Creative visualisation is a subjective experience that uses imagery and imagination.…” “Stress Management Techniques … Cognitive Behavioural Techniques : These techniques aim to inoculate people against stress. Stress inoculation training is one effective method developed by Meichenbaum. The essence of this approach is to replace negative and irrational thoughts with positive and rational ones.…” |
