Question:

A shopkeeper bought 95 dozen oranges at ₹4.50 each. 7 dozen oranges were rotten and so were discarded. He sold the remaining oranges at ₹78 per dozen. What is his profit or loss per cent (to the nearest integer)?

Options:

Profit, 45%

Profit, 34%

Loss, 34%

Loss, 45%

Correct Answer:

Profit, 34%

Explanation:

CP of 95 dozen oranges = 4.50 × 95 × 12 = 5130

Remaining oranges = 95 - 7 = 88 dozen

SP of 88 dozen oranges = 78 × 88 = 6864

Profit% = \(\frac{6864 - 5130}{5130}\) × 100

\(\frac{1734}{5130}\) × 100 =  34%
