Question:

If x + \(\frac{1}{x}\) = 12

then find the value of  x - \(\frac{1}{x}\).

Options:

35\(\sqrt {3 }\)

4\(\sqrt {35 }\)

2\(\sqrt {35 }\)

2\(\sqrt {37 }\)

Correct Answer:

2\(\sqrt {35 }\)

Explanation:

⇒ If x +  \(\frac{1}{x}\) = a then x - \(\frac{1}{x}\) = \(\sqrt {a^2 - 4}\)

Here,

x + \(\frac{1}{x}\) = 12, then

⇒ x - \(\frac{1}{x}\) = \(\sqrt {12^2 - 4}\) = 2\(\sqrt {35 }\)
