Question:

A vessel contains a mixture of apple, orange and mango juices in the respective ratio of 5 : 12 : 8. 25 ltrs of mixture is taken out and 8 ltrs of apple juice and 4 ltrs of orange juice are added to the vessel. If the resultant quantity of apple juice is 10 ltrs less than the resultant quantity of orange juice, then what was the initial quantity of mixture in the vessel?

Explanation:

Apple        Orange        Mango

5n             12n               8n      ⇒  25n (total)

-5             -12                -8       (taken out 25 ltrs mixture)

+8             +4                 0       (added as per question)

 

According to question,

⇒ (5n - 5 + 8) + 10 = (12n -12 + 4)

5n + 3 + 10 = 12n - 8

⇒ 7n = 21

⇒ 1n = 3

Initial quantity of the mixture was = 25n =  25 x 3 = 75 ltr
