Choose the correct answer from the options given below:
Answer & explanation
Correct answer: option 2
The correct answer is Option (2) → A-II, B-I, C-III, D-IV
Note 1: The given answer is as per the official NTA Answer Key. However, there seems to be an ambiguity in the question, because items (B) and (D) can each be read in two ways. A bipolar question is itself a form of close-ended question, and item (D), ‘Do you think communication is an important skill?’, also asks for a yes or no answer, so it too could be taken as a bipolar question. The pre-rationalised NCERT’s example of a close-ended question offers two alternatives (knowledge of a product or communication skill), while its example of a bipolar question, ‘Would you like to work for the company?’, is item (B) itself. NTA has probably interpreted item (D) as the close-ended question, taking it as the book’s example with its alternatives left out, and item (B) as the bipolar one. Option (4), which swaps (B) and (D), is therefore marked incorrect as per the NTA answer key.
(A) Where did you last work? — this matches (II) Direct question. Direct questions are explicit and require specific information, like ‘Where did you last work?’
(B) Would you like to work for the company? — this matches (I) Bipolar question. A bipolar question is a form of close-ended question that requires a yes or no response.
(C) How happy were you with your last job? — this matches (III) Open-ended question. Open-ended questions are less direct and specify only the topic, leaving the answer free.
(D) Do you think communication is an important skill? — this matches (IV) Close ended question. Close-ended questions provide response alternatives, narrowing the range of answers, for example whether knowledge of a product or communication skill is more important for a salesperson.
Note 2: The types of interview questions (direct, open-ended, close-ended and bipolar) were there in the pre-rationalised NCERT, which NTA followed in 2023 (chapter ‘Developing Psychological Skills’), and are not there in the NCERT book (2025-26).
