Arrange the given structures involved in embryo development in correct sequence.
A. Zygote
B. Mature embryo
C. Globular embryo
D. Heart-shaped embryo
Choose the correct answer from the options given below:
Answer & explanation
Correct answer: option 2
The correct answer is Option (2) → A, C, D, B
(A) Zygote — this comes first. The zygote is formed by fertilisation and is the first cell of the new plant.
(C) Globular embryo — this comes second. The zygote first gives the proembryo. Its cells then divide to form a ball of cells, the globular embryo.
(D) Heart-shaped embryo — this comes third. The two cotyledons begin to grow out from the ball, so the embryo takes the shape of a heart.
(B) Mature embryo — this comes last. The embryo now has the embryonal axis with the plumule and radicle, and the cotyledons.

NCERT Extract:
Embryo – “… Though the seeds differ greatly, the early stages of embryo development (embryogeny) are similar in both monocotyledons and dicotyledons. Figure 1.13 depicts the stages of embryogeny in a dicotyledonous embryo. The zygote gives rise to the proembryo and subsequently to the globular, heart-shaped and mature embryo.”
