Question:

Amit travelled a distance of 50 km in 9 hours. He travelled partly on foot at 5 km/h and partly by bicycle at 10 km/h. The distance travelled on the bicycle is:

Options:

11 km

10 km

13 km

12 km

Correct Answer:

10 km

Explanation:

Average speed = \(\frac{50}{9}\) km/h

Using allegation method :-

Ratio of time to cover distance by bicycle or on foot = \(\frac{5}{9}\) : \(\frac{40}{9}\)

= 1 : 8

9R = 9 hours

1R = 1 hour

Time taken by cycle = 1 hour

Distance = Speed × Time

= 10 × 1 = 10 km
