Question:

Two trains start at same time from two stations towards each other at the speed of 20 km/hr and 25 km/hr . At the time of meeting the faster train covers 80 km more distance than other . Find the distance between two stations .

Options:

700 km

720 km

750 km

800 km

Correct Answer:

720 km

Explanation:

Let time of travelling be t hours

Distance travelled by train with speed 25 km/hr = 25 × t = 25t

Distance travelled by train with speed 20 km/hr = 20 × t = 20t

According to question ,

Difference in distance travelled by two trains = 80 km

25t - 20t = 80

5t = 80     ⇒     t = 16

Distance between two stations is = 25t + 20t = 45 × 16 = 720 km
