The Legal Practitioners Act of 1879 repealed the Pleaders, Mukhtars and Revenue Agents Act, 1865. During this time in British India, there were six grades of practitioners- Advocates, Solicitors (Attorneys) and Vakils of the High Court and Pleaders, Mukhtars and Revenue agents in the lower courts. Vakils became a distinct grade above the Pleader. The Act brought all six grades of legal practitioners into one system. . |
