The price of rice is increased by 20% due to this a person can buy 12 kg less rice for Rs. 300. Find the new consumption of rice.

20% = \(\frac{1}{5}\)

Price ∝ \(\frac{1}{Qty.}\)           {When expenditure is constant}

Therefore,

             Old     :     New

Price :     5      :        6

Qty.  :     6      :        5       ⇒ 1R (difference)

ATQ,

1R = 12 kg

So, New Consumption = 5R = 5× 12 = 60 kg.
