Question:

The perimeter of a rectangle is equal to the perimeter of a square. If the length and the breadth of the rectangle are 10 cm and 8 cm, respectively, then what will be the area of the square?

Options:

72 cm2

98 cm2

81 cm2

64 cm2

Correct Answer:

81 cm2

Explanation:

We know that,

Perimeter of rectangle = 2(L + B)

Perimeter of square = 4(side)

Area of square = a2

We have,

The perimeter of a rectangle = The perimeter of a square

Length = 10 cm

Breadth = 8 cm

According to the question,

= Perimeter of rectangle = 2(L + B) = 2(10 + 8) = 2 x 18 = 36 cm

we know that,

= 36 = 4(side)

= side = 9 cm

= Area of square = (side)2 = side x side = 9 x 9 = 81 cm2
