Question:

In a competitive exam, the minimum qualifying percentages for Category A and Category B jobs are 25% and 45%, respectively. A candidate scored 83 marks and failed to get a Category B job by 25 marks. What is the minimum qualifying marks to secure a Category A job?

Options:

55

60

50

65

Correct Answer:

60

Explanation:

45% = \(\frac{9}{20}\)  % 25% = \(\frac{1}{4}\)

Qualifying  marks of class B = 83 + 25 = 108

45% of total marks of class B = 108

 Total marks of class B  = 108× \(\frac{20}{9}\) = 240

ATQ,

Total marks of class A = 240

So, Qualifying marks of Class A = 25% of 240

= 240× \(\frac{1}{4}\)

= 60
