Question:

In a game of pool, the solids to stripes balls ratio were 7 : 2. Had the number of stripes been 27 more, then the solids to stripes ratio would have been 11 : 7. The total number of solids and stripes in the game of pool was?

Options:

81

99

144

162

Correct Answer:

99

Explanation:

 Solid    :     Stripes

    7      :         2              ............(i)

   11     :         7              ............(ii)

In both conditions the number of solid balls is same.

Therefore, to make the ratio of solid balls equal, (i) × 11 & (ii) × 7, we get,

Solid    :     Stripes

  77      :        22    ⇒  99 (total)

  77      :        49

Difference of stripes = 49R - 22R = 27R

ATQ,

27R = 27 (given)

Hence, Total number of balls = 99R = 99
