Question:

one card is drawn at random from a well shuffled pack of 52 cards. If 'E' is the event such that " the card drawn is a spade and 'F' is the event such that " the card drawn is a king" then find the probability of drawing  a spade king if both E and f are independent events.

Options:

1/26

1/2

1/52

1/4

Correct Answer:

1/52

Explanation:

In a pack of 52 cards, 13 cards are spades and four cards are king.

So, P(E) = the card drawn is spade = 13/52 = 1/4

P(F) = the card drawn is a king = 4/52 = 1/13

In pack of 52 cards only one card is king of spade.

P(EF) = P(the card drawn is spade and king) = (1/4) x (1/13)

                                                                 = 1/52
