Identify the correct sequence of levels involved in regulation of gene expression in eukaryotes.
(A) Transport of mRNA from nucleus to cytoplasm
(B) Processing level
(C) Translational level
(D) Transcriptional level
Choose correct answer for several levels of gene expression regulation from options given below:
Answer & explanation
Correct answer: option 3
The correct answer is Option (3) → (D), (B), (A), (C)
(D) Transcriptional level — this is the first level. The gene is copied into a primary RNA transcript. Control at this step decides whether the RNA is made at all.
(B) Processing level — this is the second level. The primary transcript is spliced to give the mature mRNA, and the splicing can be regulated.
(A) Transport of mRNA from nucleus to cytoplasm — this is the third level. The mature mRNA has to leave the nucleus before it can be used.
(C) Translational level — this is the last level. The ribosomes in the cytoplasm read the mRNA and make the protein, so this step has to come after the mRNA reaches the cytoplasm.
