India implemented a series of Five Year Plans from 1951 to 2017 to guide its economic development. Each plan focused on specific objectives and priorities. Second Five Year Plan (1956-1961): The Second FYP stressed on heavy industries. It was drafted by a team of economists and planners under the leadership of P. C. Mahalanobis. If the first plan had preached patience, the second wanted to bring about quick structural transformation by making changes simultaneously in all possible directions. Third Five Year Plan (1961-1966): Focused on self-sufficiency in food production and eradication of unemployment. India witnessed greeen revolution by the end of the Third Five Year Plan. The Third Plan was not significantly different from the Second. Critics pointed out that the plan strategies from this time around displayed an unmistakable “urban bias”. Others thought that industry was wrongly given priority over agriculture. There were also those who wanted focus on agriculture-related industries rather than heavy ones. Fifth Five Year Plan (1974-1979): Aimed at poverty alleviation and self-reliance. Note: Based on the given options, it becomes clear that option 2: A-II, B-IV, C-III, D-I will be the correct answer as in the NCERT we have discussed vividly that the first plan focussed on agriculture and the second plan on Industrial development. |
